Cage rearing is the most widely used three-dimensional method in chicken production and the primary form of off-ground rearing. Over 80% of laying hens in developed countries are kept in cages. Each cage measures 650 mm long and 1250 mm wide, featuring a door measuring 650 mm long, 650 mm deep, and 500 mm high. The design prioritizes ample open space for maximum comfort, with precise structural enhancements promoting welfare, accommodating up to 9 animals per door. Each chicken enjoys 452 square centimeters of space, and the feeding capacity of each cage is 18 chickens.

Each compartment of the three-layer configuration accommodates 54 birds, while each enclosure houses 72 birds. For six-floor configurations, each enclosure houses 108 birds. The most common setup is four layers, with options for multi-layer partitions. Duplex structures typically include 4+4 layers or 3+3+3 layers, aiming to reduce housing costs and enhance overall value.
